日光二荒山神社
日光連山の二荒山(男体山)を神体山として祀る神社。本社のほか中禅寺湖畔の中宮祠、男体山山頂の奥宮に分かれ、別宮として本宮神社・滝尾神社がある。創建は、勝道上人が神護景雲元年(767)に本宮神社にあたる祠を建てたことに始まると言われている。現在は、招福と縁結びの神社として人気。八棟造の本殿や入母屋造の拝殿など社殿11棟が重要文化財に指定されている。神苑にある「化灯籠」も見どころのひとつ。

Nikko Futarasan Shrine
A shrine that enshrines Mt. Futara (Mt. Nantai) in the Nikko mountain range as a sacred mountain. In addition to the main shrine, it is divided into the Chugu Shrine on the shores of Lake Chuzenji and the Okumiya on the summit of Mt. Nantai. It is said that Shodo Shonin built a shrine equivalent to Hongu Shrine in the first year of Jingo Keiun (767). Today, it is popular as a shrine for good luck and matchmaking. Eleven shrine buildings, including the main hall with eight roofs and the front shrine with a gabled roof, have been designated as important cultural properties. One of the highlights is the "bake lantern" in the Shinen garden.
