秋・四季の風景が美しい竜頭の滝（日光・栃木）

竜頭の滝

男体山の噴火によってできた溶岩の上を、長さ約210メートル、幅約10メートルほどで勢いよく流れる渓流爆。滝つぼ近くが大きな岩によって二分され、その様子が竜の頭に似ていることが名の由来といわれます。5月から6月は赤紫色のトウゴクミツバツツジが咲き誇るおすすめのシーズン。奥日光でも最も早く紅葉する場所としても有名です。

Ryuzu Waterfall

A mountain stream about 210 meters long and about 10 meters wide flows vigorously on the lava formed by the eruption of Mt. Nantai. It is said that the name comes from the fact that the area near the basin of the waterfall is divided in two by a large rock that resembles a dragon's head. May to June is the recommended season when red-purple Rhododendron dilatatum blooms. It is also famous as the place where the autumn leaves are the earliest in Oku-Nikko.
